Frequently asked questions

1> Can I come on a run to see if I like it?

Yes, just check the EVENTS page to find out what runs are happening and turn up for one you fancy going on. Please read the RUN RULES page .

2> Can I attend a meeting to see what goes on?

Certainly, just come to The Keel Inn, Stairfoot, Barnsley. Check EVENTS for the date and time of the meetings. Check INFO for the location. Also See section 5>

3>
How much does it cost to join the club?

Subs are presently £10 a year. For this you get a membership card which entitles you to a discount at some outlets. You may get discounted entry to the BMF show and you get a lot of biking fun!

4> How do I put a run on?

Work out a few details like route, date, destination, cost etc. Then raise it at a meeting when future events are discussed. If it gets seconded then it’s on. If you need any help just ask.

5> What happens at the meetings?

Please don’t be put off by the meetings. They can be quite long winded and boring. Although at other times they can be very entertaining. However, they are necessary to the democratic running of the club. They are not compulsory so if you just want to ride your bike, that’s o.k. - just come on the runs. Meetings can last between 40 and 90 minutes but are usually about an hour. The meeting will start at 8.30pm when we ‘disappear inside’ and follow a set Agenda. All sorts of things will be discussed from BMF membership to the price of burgers at The Show With Go! Afterwards we have a raffle and sit around talking about bikes. We meet in the first room on the left as you go through the door off the car park of The Keel.

6> What should I do on a Run?

Introduce yourself to the Run Leader when you get to The Keel and he/she will give you a quick run through of what is happening. When the run starts ride at a pace you feel comfortable with. The fast guys always pull in and wait for the others so you won’t get lost. Runs can seem a bit ‘fast and furious’ at first but don’t worry, just go at your own pace, you won’t get left. After a few runs you’ll find it gets easier.

7> How many riders will be on a run?

This varies enormously. Sometimes there may be only a couple of riders and then on the next run there can be a couple of dozen!

8> I’ve never ridden in a group before.

If you are new to group riding then go at your own  pace. Look out for the rider behind and if you can’t see him, slow down a bit. Don’t go faster to catch up with the rider in front, he will wait for you. If no one’s waiting at a junction or roundabout then go straight on. If you do get separated then pull in and wait for a phone call.
