Please don't be put off by the rules, they are there to ensure safety. The Run Leader will decide what system will be used at the start of the run depending on the number of bikes, weather conditions, distance etc.
The Standard format is for each rider to look out for the rider behind them and to wait safely at any deviations in the route (eg junctions, roundabouts) to show the following riders the way as illustrated in Standard System below.

The Brass Monkey Trophy 2011 Rules
This runs from January the 1st until the 31st of March. A very relaxed version of the above rules will apply. Regardless of leading or following each member can only gain 1 point per run.

TEC - Tail End Charlie System.
If large numbers (12+) of bikes turn up the RUN LEADER may decide to use this system which is especially effective with larger groups.
The Ride leader remains at the front throughout the ride. The TEC (Tail end Charlie) or Sweeper remains at the rear of the ride throughout. One thing that greatly assists in this riding technique is to have the TEC readily identifiable by wearing a tabard, or riding an easily identifiable bike, which can be quickly recognised in your mirrors.
The body of the riders will find their position changed continually as they make progress over the journey.
Whenever there is a deviation to the obvious straight ahead route, this will be indicated by the Ride Leader to the rider travelling immediately behind him. This rider then pulls over, in a visible but safe place in order to point the remaining riders in the correct direction. If in doubt mark the junction as it is preferable to people being undecided as to the direction in which to go.
This bike now becomes ‘The Marker’. The Marker will remain in place until the TEC arrives at which point the Marker will rejoin the group in front of the TEC. As the journey progresses each rider will find that they, in turn become the bike behind the Leader, are dropped as a Marker and then rejoin in front of the TEC once all other bikes have passed.
Note for Marker: Never compromise your safety or the safety of others when attempting to mark a junction. No one wants to get lost but it is preferable to putting yourself a risk.
